Frequently Asked Questions

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), a chronic, debilitating, disorder of the gastrointestinal tract with rising global incidence, particularly in newly industrialized regions, exhibits marked disparities in burden across populations. While genome-wide association studies (GWASs) have identified genetic loci linked to IBD, their role in shaping population-level disease burden remains underexplored.

1. What data is used?

Four burden indicators for IBD from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2021 were combined with genome-wide SNP allele frequencies (2.6 million variants) from the 1000 Genomes Project across 20 countries.Data are available in a public, open-access repository. We downloaded IBD disease data from the Global Health Data Exchange (GHDx) query tool. The raw variant data in VCF format were obtained from the 1000 Genomes Project.

2. What method is used?

Mixed-effects model, adjusting for socio-demographic index (SDI) and random country/year effects, identified burden quantitative trait loci (bQTLs). Bayesian fine-mapping prioritized causal variants, and colocalization with GWAS signals elucidated shared mechanisms.

3. How to get more results?

The website provides access to a limited portion of the results. Researchers interested in obtaining additional data for non-commercial scientific research are invited to contact our team and submit a detailed research proposal for consideration.

4. How to view the results?

Option 1: Use the drop-down menu in the navigation bar to access the results section. From there, you can select the disease and measurement indicator of interest.
Option 2: Alternatively, the results can be accessed directly by scrolling to the bottom of the homepage.
