19558581 | Brainstem involvement in Sjögren's syndrome-related sensory neuronopathy. | 2010 Oct | BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Sensory neuronopathies (SN) are peripheral nervous system disorders associated with degeneration of dorsal root ganglion neurons. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies have shown abnormalities limited to T2-weighted high signal intensity in the posterior columns. METHODS AND RESULTS: A 65-year-old woman with Sjögren syndrome had slowly progressive unsteadiness of gait and limb paresthesias. A blink reflex examination suggested a paramedian brainstem lesion, confirmed by MRI. CONCLUSIONS: Sjögren's syndrome-related SN may be associated with a more diffuse immune-mediated aggression, involving also the brainstem, and leading to some of the blink reflex abnormalities observed in nonparaneoplastic SN. | |
20549928 | [Electrostimulation for the treatment of dry mouth]. | 2010 Feb | Xerostomia is a very common condition, which not only involves dry mouth feeling, but can also lead to psychosocial distress, impaired quality of life, and complications, such as dental caries and oral candidiasis. It is generally induced by hypofunction of salivary glands, which has a wide variety of etiologies, such as Sjögren's syndrome, radiotherapy to the head and neck and side effects of medications. Current therapies rely on saliva substitutes and pharmacological stimulation of the parasympathetic system. These treatment modalities are somewhat limited by their short-term efficacy, high cost and drug interactions or other adverse effects. Local transcutaneous or permucosal electrostimulation in areas close to the nerves participating in the salivary autonomic reflex has been found to increase salivary secretion in animal and clinical experiments and to relieve symptoms of dry mouth in patients with salivary gland hypofunction. This concept is reviewed to update the readers on the current status and potential of intraoral miniature electrostimulating devices. They offer promise as an optional safe and non-chemical treatment of xerostomia. | |
20213806 | Involvement of the renin-angiotensin system in the development of vascular damage in a rat | 2010 May | OBJECTIVE: To explore the involvement of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) in the development of vascular damage in adjuvant-induced arthritis (AIA) in rats. METHODS: Angiotensin II (Ang II; 0.25 or 1.0 mg/kg/day) was infused in control rats and rats with AIA for 21 days, and the impact of systemic inflammation on Ang II-induced hypertension, endothelial dysfunction, and vascular hypertrophy was evaluated. Expression of angiotensin II type 1 receptor (AT(1)R) and angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) in the aortas of rats with AIA were examined by real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and Western blot analyses. Losartan (3 mg/kg/day) or irbesartan (5 mg/kg/day), both of which are AT(1)R blockers, was administered orally to rats with AIA for 21 days. In situ superoxide production in aortas was assessed according to the fluorogenic oxidation of dihydroethidium to ethidium. The expression and activity of NAD(P)H oxidases in aortas were examined by real-time PCR analysis and lucigenin chemiluminescence assay. Endothelial function in rats with AIA treated in vivo or ex vivo with AT(1)R blockers was also determined. RESULTS: The Ang II-induced hypertensive response, endothelial dysfunction, and vascular hypertrophy were exacerbated in rats with AIA. Expression of AT(1)R and ACE was increased in the aortas of rats with AIA. Both losartan and irbesartan decreased the levels of superoxide and the expression and activity NAD(P)H oxidases in the aortas of rats with AIA. The endothelial dysfunction in AIA was improved by the in vivo or ex vivo treatment with AT(1)R blockers. CONCLUSION: The locally activated RAS is involved in the increased vascular oxidative stress and endothelial dysfunction in AIA. Our findings have important implications for clinical approaches to the reduction of cardiovascular risk in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. | |
20815171 | [Application scintigraphy in evaluation of salivary gland function]. | 2010 Mar | The salivary glands belong to the exocrine glands. There are tree main pairs of salivary glands: parotid, submandibular, sublingual. Several modalities are used for salivary gland imaging, such as sonography, computer tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. The aim of these methods is mainly to present morphological impairment. Parenchymal function and excretion function of all salivary glands can be quantified by scintigraphy. After single intravenous injection of 99mTc-pertechnetate sequential images are acquired up to 25-40 minutes. Usually about fifteen minutes postinjection 3 ml of lemon juice are administered intraorally as sialogogue. Salivary scintigraphy can estimate the severity of salivary gland involvement and function disorders, which may not be accurately reflected by the morphological damage. The clinical impact of scintigraphy has been reported in multiple salivary glands diseases, such as Sjogren's syndrome, sialolithiasis with or without parenchymal damage, iatrogenic irradiation of the salivary glands for therapy of head and neck tumors or radioiodine treatment of thyroid cancer. No other method can give so much information about function of salivary glands. Scintigraphy is noninvasive examination, easy to perform, reproducible and well-tolerated by the patient. | |
20802365 | Factor analysis of the clinical characteristics of primary Sjogren syndrome. | 2010 Oct | PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to use factor analysis to analyze 90 clinical characteristics of a cohort of 231 patients with primary Sjogren syndrome (pSS). METHODS: The records of all patients seen at the University Health Network Sjogren Syndrome Clinic from October 1992 to July 2006 were reviewed and documented. Those diagnosed as pSS by the American European Consensus Criteria of 2002 were included. The 90 clinical variables, including health history, blood analysis, symptoms of dry eye and dry mouth, salivary flow and biopsy, tear flow and staining, were analyzed by factor analysis. RESULTS: Two hundred thirty-one patients with pSS charts were reviewed, and 90 variables were recorded. Factor analysis resulted in three factors: factor 1: ocular surface staining, factor 2: antimicrosomal antibodies and antithyroid antibodies, and factor 3: serum anti-Ro and anti-La. CONCLUSIONS: Ocular surface staining accounted for the greatest variance in this population of patients with pSS. | |
20642832 | Liposomal encapsulation enhances and prolongs the anti-inflammatory effects of water-solub | 2010 | INTRODUCTION: The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of intravenous (i.v.) injection of liposomally encapsulated dexamethasone phosphate (DxM-P) in comparison to free DxM-P in rats with established adjuvant arthritis (AA). This study focused on polyethylene glycol (PEG)-free liposomes, to minimize known allergic reactions caused by neutral PEG-modified (PEG-ylated) liposomes. METHODS: Efficacy was assessed clinically and histologically using standard scores. Non-specific and specific immune parameters were monitored. Activation of peritoneal macrophages was analyzed via cytokine profiling. Pharmacokinetics/biodistribution of DxM in plasma, synovial membrane, spleen and liver were assessed via mass spectrometry. RESULTS: Liposomal DxM-P (3 × 1 mg/kg body weight; administered intravenously (i.v.) on Days 14, 15 and 16 of AA) suppressed established AA, including histological signs, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, white blood cell count, circulating anti-mycobacterial IgG, and production of interleukin-1beta (IL-1β) and IL-6 by peritoneal macrophages. The suppression was strong and long-lasting. The clinical effects of liposomal DxM-P were dose-dependent for dosages between 0.01 and 1.0 mg/kg. Single administration of 1 mg/kg liposomal DxM-P and 3 × 1 mg/kg of free DxM-P showed comparable effects consisting of a partial and transient suppression. Moreover, the effects of medium-dose liposomal DxM-P (3 × 0.1 mg/kg) were equal (in the short term) or superior (in the long term) to those of high-dose free DxM-P (3 × 1 mg/kg), suggesting a potential dose reduction by a factor between 3 and 10 by liposomal encapsulation. For at least 48 hours after the last injection, the liposomal drug achieved significantly higher levels in plasma, synovial membrane, spleen and liver than the free drug. CONCLUSIONS: This new PEG-free formulation of macrophage-targeting liposomal DxM-P considerably reduces the dose and/or frequency required to treat AA, with a potential to enhance or prolong therapeutic efficacy and limit side-effects also in the therapy of rheumatoid arthritis. Depot and/or recirculation effects in plasma, inflamed joint, liver, and spleen may contribute to this superiority of liposomally encapsulated DxM-P. | |
21155990 | Therapeutic effects of TACI-Ig on rat with adjuvant arthritis. | 2011 Feb | Transmembrane activator and calcium modulator and cyclophilin ligand interactor-immunoglobulin (TACI-Ig) is a human fusion protein that binds and neutralizes both B lymphocyte stimulator (BLyS), a cytokine shown to be a key regulator of B cell maturation, proliferation and survival, and a proliferation-inducing ligand (APRIL). Rat adjuvant arthritis (AA) is an experimental animal model of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), which is mainly dependent on T cells and neutrophil-mediated cytokine production. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effects of TACI-Ig on rat AA. Rat AA was induced by intradermal injection of 0·1 ml complete Freund's adjuvant (CFA). TACI-Ig (0·7, 2·1 and 6·3 mg/kg), recombinant human tumour necrosis factor-α receptor (rhTNFR) : Fc (2·8 mg/kg) and IgG-Fc (6·3 mg/kg) were administered subcutaneously every other day from days 16 to 34 after immunization. Arthritis was evaluated by arthritis global assessment and swollen joint count (SJC). The ankle joint and spleen were harvested for histopathological examination. Spleen index and thymus index were calculated. The levels of BLyS, interleukin (IL)-17, interferon (IFN)-γ, IgG1, IgG2a and IgM in AA rat spleen were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Administration of TACI-Ig significantly reduced the arthritis global assessment and SJC, decreased spleen index and ameliorated histopathological manifestations of rat AA. Suppressing the levels of BLyS, IL-17, IFN-γ and Ig in AA rat spleen were observed after administration of TACI-Ig. These results showed that TACI-Ig significantly inhibited the degree of rat AA, and the inhibitory effects might be associated with its ability to reduce BLyS, proinflammatory cytokines and Ig levels in spleen. | |
19955422 | IL-17-producing T cells can augment autoantibody-induced arthritis. | 2009 Dec 22 | Rheumatoid arthritis is a T lymphocyte-mediated disorder, but the precise nature of T cell involvement remains unclear. In the K/BxN mouse model of inflammatory arthritis, T cells initiate disease by providing help to B cells to produce arthritogenic autoantibodies. Here, we have characterized an additional, nonhumoral role for T cells in promoting autoantibody-induced arthritis. Autoreactive KRN T cells introduced either by direct transfer or bone marrow transplantation into B-cell-deficient hosts enhanced K/BxN serum-transferred arthritis, an effect that was dependent on expression of the cognate MHC-molecule/peptide complex. The T cell influence was dependent on interleukin (IL)-17; in contrast, standard serum-transferred arthritis, unenhanced by the addition of T cells, was unaffected by IL-17 neutralization. An IL-17-producing population of transferred KRN T cells was identified and found to be supported by the cotransfer of arthritogenic autoantibodies. IL-17-producing KRN T cells were enriched in inflamed joints of K/BxN mice, suggesting either selective recruitment or preferential differentiation. These results demonstrate the potential for autoreactive T cells to play two roles in the development of arthritis, both driving the production of pathogenic autoantibodies and bolstering the subsequent inflammatory cascade dependent on the innate immune system. | |
20959016 | 'Choosing shoes': a preliminary study into the challenges facing clinicians in assessing f | 2010 Oct 19 | BACKGROUND: Footwear has been accepted as a therapeutic intervention for the foot affected by rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Evidence relating to the objective assessment of footwear in patients with RA is limited. The aims of this study were to identify current footwear styles, footwear characteristics, and factors that influence footwear choice experienced by patients with RA. METHODS: Eighty patients with RA were recruited from rheumatology clinics during the summer months. Clinical characteristics, global function, and foot impairment and disability measures were recorded. Current footwear, footwear characteristics and the factors associated with choice of footwear were identified. Suitability of footwear was recorded using pre-determined criteria for assessing footwear type, based on a previous study of foot pain. RESULTS: The patients had longstanding RA with moderate-to severe disability and impairment. The foot and ankle assessment demonstrated a low-arch profile with both forefoot and rearfoot structural deformities. Over 50% of shoes worn by patients were open-type footwear. More than 70% of patients' footwear was defined as being poor. Poor footwear characteristics such as heel rigidity and sole hardness were observed. Patients reported comfort (17%) and fit (14%) as important factors in choosing their own footwear. Only five percent (5%) of patients wore therapeutic footwear. CONCLUSIONS: The majority of patients with RA wear footwear that has been previously described as poor. Future work needs to aim to define and justify the specific features of footwear that may be of benefit to foot health for people with RA. | |

Currently, the TH17 is recognized as the leading actor of local inflammation through the pro-inflammatory cytokines (interleukins 17, 21, 22) that secretes and the expansion and recruitment of neutrophils that leads. Therefore, it is involved in chronic inflammatory processes, autoimmune diseases (rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus), allergy and rejection of allogeneic transplants. TH17 lymphocyte opens up new therapeutic prospects for these pathologies. | |
19570210 | Broad-range PCR, cloning and sequencing of the full 16S rRNA gene for detection of bacteri | 2009 | INTRODUCTION: Broad-range rDNA PCR provides an alternative, cultivation-independent approach for identifying bacterial DNA in reactive and other form of arthritis. The aim of this study was to use broad-range rDNA PCR targeting the 16S rRNA gene in patients with reactive and other forms of arthritis and to screen for the presence of DNA from any given bacterial species in synovial fluid (SF) samples. METHODS: We examined the SF samples from a total of 27 patients consisting of patients with reactive arthritis (ReA) (n = 5), undifferentiated arthritis (UA) (n = 9), rheumatoid arthritis (n = 7), and osteoarthritis (n = 6) of which the latter two were used as controls. Using broad-range bacterial PCR amplifying a 1400 bp fragment from the 16S rRNA gene, we identified and sequenced at least 24 clones from each SF sample. To identify the corresponding bacteria, DNA sequences were compared to the EMBL (European Molecular Biology Laboratory) database. RESULTS: Bacterial DNA was identified in 20 of the 27 SF samples (74, 10%). Analysis of a large number of sequences revealed the presence of DNA from more than one single bacterial species in the SF of all patients studied. The nearly complete sequences of the 1400 bp were obtained for most of the detected species. DNA of bacterial species including Shigella species, Escherichia species, and other coli-form bacteria as well as opportunistic pathogens such as Stenotrophomonas maltophilia and Achromobacter xylosoxidans were shared in all arthritis patients. Among pathogens described to trigger ReA, DNA from Shigella sonnei was found in ReA and UA patients. We also detected DNA from rarely occurring human pathogens such as Aranicola species and Pantoea ananatis. We also found DNA from bacteria so far not described in human infections such as Bacillus niacini, Paenibacillus humicus, Diaphorobacter species and uncultured bacterium genera incertae sedis OP10. CONCLUSIONS: Broad-range PCR followed by cloning and sequencing the entire 16S rDNA, allowed the identification of the bacterial DNA environment in the SF samples of arthritic patients. We found a wide spectrum of bacteria including those known to be involved in ReA and others not previously associated with arthritis. | |

As reported in several case series, the final diagnosis can be pigmented villonodular synovitis, localized nodular synovitis, hemangioma, lipoma, or rheumatoid nodules. In this case presentation, a 39-year-old man with no previous medical conditions and a negative preoperative chest radiograph underwent arthroscopic surgery for a single intra-articular knee mass. The unexpected diagnosis, after pathology review and further medical work-up, was arthritis secondary to chronic sarcoidosis. | |
19116909 | Association of the IL2RA/CD25 gene with juvenile idiopathic arthritis. | 2009 Jan | OBJECTIVE: IL2RA/CD25, the gene for interleukin-2 receptor alpha, is emerging as a general susceptibility gene for autoimmune diseases because of its role in the development and function of regulatory T cells and the association of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) within this gene with type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM), Graves' disease, rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and multiple sclerosis (MS). The aim of this study was to determine whether SNPs within the IL2RA/CD25 gene are associated with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). METHODS: Three SNPs within the IL2RA/CD25 gene, that previously showed evidence of an association with either RA, MS, or type 1 DM, were selected for genotyping in UK JIA cases (n=654) and controls (n=3,849). Data for 1 SNP (rs2104286) were also available from North American JIA cases (n=747) and controls (n=1,161). Association analyses were performed using Plink software. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) were calculated. RESULTS: SNP rs2104286 within the IL2RA/CD25 gene was significantly associated with UK JIA cases (OR for the allele 0.76 [95% CI 0.66-0.88], P for trend=0.0002). A second SNP (rs41295061) also showed modest evidence for association with JIA (OR 0.80 [95% CI 0.63-1.0], P=0.05). Association with rs2104286 was convincingly replicated in the North American JIA cohort (OR 0.84 [95% CI 0.65-0.99], P for trend=0.05). Meta-analysis of the 2 cohorts yielded highly significant evidence of association with JIA (OR 0.76 [95% CI 0.62-0.88], P=4.9x10(-5)). CONCLUSION: These results provide strong evidence that the IL2RA/CD25 gene represents a JIA susceptibility locus. Further investigation of the gene using both genetic and functional approaches is now required. | |
19001053 | Modulation of xylosyltransferase I expression provides a mechanism regulating glycosaminog | 2009 Mar | Osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis are characterized by loss of proteoglycans (PGs) and their glycosaminoglycan (GAG) chains that are essential for cartilage function. Here, we investigated the role of glycosyltransferases (GTs) responsible for PG-GAG chain assembly during joint cartilage destruction and repair processes. At various times after antigen-induced arthritis (AIA) and papain-induced cartilage repair in rats, PG synthesis and deposition, expression of GTs, and GAG chain composition were analyzed. Our data showed that expression of the GT xylosyltransferase I (XT-I) gene initiating PG-GAG chain synthesis was significantly reduced in AIA rat cartilage and was associated with a decrease in PG synthesis. Interestingly, interleukin-1beta, the main proinflammatory cytokine incriminated in joint diseases, down-regulated the XT-I gene expression with a concomitant decrease in PG synthesis in rat cartilage explants ex vivo. However, cartilage from papain-injected rat knees showed up-regulation of XT-I gene expression and increased PG synthesis at early stages of cartilage repair, a process associated with up-regulation of TGF-beta1 gene expression and mediated by p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase activation. Consistently, silencing of XT-I expression by intraarticular injection of XT-I shRNA in rat knees prevented cartilage repair by decreasing PG synthesis and content. These findings show that GTs play a key role in the loss of PG-GAGs in joint diseases and identify novel targets for stimulating cartilage repair. | |

While hip pain can be attributed to primary hip pathology, the hip area is also a common site for referred pain. This often poses a diagnostic challenge particularly in the young child who may not verbalise the point of pain and may not report an injury. Differential diagnoses for paediatric hip joint pain range from fracture, transient synovitis, septic arthritis with or without osteomyelitis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA, previously juvenile rheumatoid arthritis JRA), Legg-Calve-Perthes' disease (LCP), slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) to haemarthrosis in patient with a clotting disorder. Referred pain from abdominal pathology, for example; appendicitis, psoas abscess or haematoma should also be considered. The evaluation and management of hip pain requires a thorough history and physical examination. A radiograph is usually indicated to rule out any bony injury. Septic arthritis is a medical emergency requiring urgent surgical as well as medical treatment. Ultrasound of the hip joint plays a role in helping to differentiate which hips require early intervention and to guide a needle aspiration of joint fluid if indicated. Efficacy and safety in 54 patie | 2010 May | OBJECTIVE: To analyze published evidence about adalimumab use in autoimmune diseases. METHODS: Systematic review of MEDLINE database of citations included from January 1990 to December 2008 employing the terms "adalimumab" and the different systemic autoimmune diseases. RESULTS: Our search identified 241 potentially relevant citations. 154 were retrieved for detailed evaluation. Finally, 18 were selected as relevant, including 54 patients. The reported diseases were as follow: Behçet disease in 16 patients, idiopathic uveitis in 13, sarcoidosis in 5, uveitis associated with rheumatologic diseases in 5 (psoriasis in 2, ankylosing spondylitis in 1, juvenile idiopathic arthritis in 1, Crohn disease in 1), Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease in 4, Birdshot uveitis in 4, vasculitis in 3 (1 temporal arteritis, 1 Takayasu's disease, 1 skin vasculitis associated with rheumatoid arthritis), adult onset Still disease in 2, relapsing polychondritis in 1 and systemic sclerosis in 1. The clinical spectrum included uveitis (39 cases), skin and/or mucosae (9), vasculitis (3), arthritis (6), lung (3). These patients were refractory to standard therapy, including corticosteroids (42 cases, 78%), immunosuppressants (42, 78%) and biologics (29, 54%). Fifty (93%) patients responded to adalimumab. The clinical response was similar in those patients who had been treated with other biologic and in those who had not received biologic therapy before adalimumab. The patients were followed for 11.9 months. Twelve (22%) patients relapsed. Five (9%) patients suffer some side effect (3 local skin reaction, 1 angioedema, 1 lung fibrosis). One patient (2%) died due to progression of her disease. CONCLUSIONS: Available data about the use of adalimumab in autoinmune diseases come from case reports and uncontrolled studies, that include patients with severe disease and refractory to standard therapy. In this setting, it seems to be an effective and safe treatment option, especially in patients with uveitis and Behçet's disease. This initial data must be confirmed by controlled assays before extending adalimumab use. | |
20676642 | Overlapping juvenile idiopathic arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus: a case report. | 2011 May | Hereby, we report the case of a 12-year-old girl developing oligoarthritis and progressing into a polyarticular form. Rheumatoid factor was positive, and juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) was diagnosed. After a poor response to DMARDs, an anti-TNF agent (infliximab) was initiated, but to be discontinued due to an allergic reaction. The same complication was observed with the fully human derivative, adalimumab. At the age of 22, the patient presented septicemia with severe anemia and subsequent development of leukopenia, myocarditis with heart failure, and ANA, aSm, aSS-A, aCL positives, and nephrotic syndrome. These new clinical manifestations fulfilled the classification criteria for the diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus. Due to the poor therapeutic responses for both diseases, alternative medical options have to be considered, such as targeted therapy with anti-CD20 or interleukin-6 receptor antagonist monoclonal antibodies. This patient may also be a candidate for autologous hemopoietic stem cell transplantation. | |

Item response theory (IRT) and computerized adaptive testing (CAT) techniques can increase reliability and statistical power. IRT-based instruments can improve measurement precision substantially over a wider range of disease severity. These modern methods were applied and the magnitude of improvement was estimated. METHODS: A 199-item physical function/disability item bank was developed by distilling 1865 items to 124, including Legacy Health Assessment Questionnaire (HAQ) and Physical Function-10 items, and improving precision through qualitative and quantitative evaluation in over 21,000 subjects, which included about 1500 patients with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. Four new instruments, (A) Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information (PROMIS) HAQ, which evolved from the original (Legacy) HAQ; (B) "best" PROMIS 10; (C) 20-item static (short) forms; and (D) simulated PROMIS CAT, which sequentially selected the most informative item, were compared with the HAQ. RESULTS: Online and mailed administration modes yielded similar item and domain scores. The HAQ and PROMIS HAQ 20-item scales yielded greater information content versus other scales in patients with more severe disease. The "best" PROMIS 20-item scale outperformed the other 20-item static forms over a broad range of 4 standard deviations. The 10-item simulated PROMIS CAT outperformed all other forms. CONCLUSION: Improved items and instruments yielded better information. The PROMIS HAQ is currently available and considered validated. The new PROMIS short forms, after validation, are likely to represent further improvement. CAT-based physical function/disability assessment offers superior performance over static forms of equal length. | |

One of the patients had a known history of lymphoma. The other patient had a history of rheumatoid arthritis but no history of cancer or other metabolic bone disease. Both nails failed at the junction of the compression screw and the nail. The angle of failure of the nail was the same in both cases. The index of suspicion for imminent mechanical failure of the gamma nail should be higher in pathologic fractures and fractures which are malreduced during nailing. | |

It is characterized by parallelism in the primary gaze position, limitation or absence of elevation in adduction, frequent depression of the eye in adduction with anisotropy in V-pattern and positive passive duction in the elevation in adduction. It is called inflammatory Brown syndrome, a secondary disorder, which main causes are local inflammation in the orbit and inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and tenosynovitis. A case of a 44 year-old patient, male, complaining of binocular vertical diplopia due to recurring dextroversion is reported. It was diagnosed as inflammatory Brown syndrome of uncertain etiology, confirmed by magnetic nuclear resonance, and with spontaneous resolution. |
