317534 | [Treatment of psoriatic rheumatism]. | 1979 Oct | The authors report on the results of a cooperative study done in collaboration with dermatologists and rheumatologists in order to determine the therapeutic incompatibilities resulting from the co-existence of two diseases, both of unknown cause, namely arthropathies and dermopathies. They make an non exhaustive review of the litearature concerning the different medical or physical methods used. They attempt to outline a therapeutic schema according to the different clinical forms and the more or less large extent of the skin disease.
6524113 | [Graphic presentation of visual analog scales for pain evaluation in rheumatology]. | 1984 Sep | The scores of visual analog scales, used for rating of rheumatological pains, are scarcely normal distributed. The presentation of these findings by mean and standard deviation can be evidently distorted. Furthermore range and extreme values are missing. The new grafical method-box and whisker plot-is more adequate to those data. Comparing both methods in a clinical trial the possible gain of information is illustrated.
25591253 | [Medical and socio-economical significance of rehabilitation of the patients with late pos | 1982 Jan | As part of a clinical-epidemiological follow-up carried out between 1975 and 1979 in IaÅŸi, the evolution of the clinical and functional recuperatory process in a series of 269 patients with articular rheumatismal manifestations, out of which 67.6% caused by pharyngo-amigdalytis infections, was studied. The investigations on ASLO, fibrinogen, VSH, urinary sediment, ECG and presence of some germs, having etiological significance, in the nasopharyngeal exudate have brought data pleading for the infectious-allergic etiopathogenesis of an important number of the chronic articular rheumatism cases. The drug treatment and balneophysiotherapy had full recuperatory effects in 18.2% and partial ones in 57.6% of the cases. The cost of the recuperatory intervention is about 4-4,500 lei/year/patient.
9336620 | First results of arthroplasty of the wrist by Swanson's implant. Twenty-five cases. | 1982 | We have carried out 25 arthroplasties of the wrist using the Swanson implant since 1976. The indications were primarily in rheumatoid arthritis. The operation was done for severe pain and deformity of the wrist. Results were analysed in 19 patients with a follow-up of 21-54 months. Post-operative pain relief is good. Although mobility is fair, the return of the balance of wrist motions has been recovered. The results of the Swanson implant arthroplasty are compared to dorsal synovectomy and wrist arthrodesis.
6341207 | Prognostic and therapeutic implications of immunologic test results in rheumatic disease. | 1983 May | In systemic lupus erythematosus, some immunologic tests quantify disease activity, enable prediction of higher risk patterns of disease, and serve as therapeutic guides. In rheumatoid arthritis, serologic phenomena are significantly associated with more severe and sustained joint disease and with visceral manifestations (vasculitides and granulomas), but they have not been useful in monitoring the course of disease or response to therapy. In other rheumatic syndromes, a variety of antinuclear specificities show promise as marker antibodies, but their prognostic and therapeutic implications remain largely unexplored.
7107096 | Clinical and radiographic evaluation of modular knee replacement. A review of 95 cases. | 1982 | Ninety-five modular total knee replacements, 54 of them unicompartmental, have been reviewed. The average follow-up was three years. The major indication for operation was pain. A precise reoperative radiographic evaluation and a technique for a positioning the components are described. This had led to a significant improvement in the clinical and radiographic results in 67 out of 95 knees which were operated on. The modifications concern the orientation of the tibial cut, the placing of the femoral components and the correction of axial deviation. The main causes of the 13% of failures in our series were either errors in positioning the components or a preoperative diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis. Unicompartmental replacement gave similar results in both valgus and varus knees, and the morbidity was lower than in the biocompartmental replacements. The best results were obtained in osteoarthritic knees in elderly patients and in posttraumatic osteoarthritis.
2580400 | [Are inflammation parameters true signs of activity? A contribution to the problem of proc | 1985 Jan | Among all laboratory parameters used today in the assessment of activity and progression of rheumatoid arthritis erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) can only be recommended reservedly. ESR is influenced by anemia, reduction of plasma fibrinogen, dysproteinemia and by the concentration of acute phase proteins. Quantification of acute phase proteins especially of the C-reactive protein (CRP) correlates best with activity and progression of early forms of rheumatoid arthritis as well as with malignant courses. During the administration of alkylating agents - rise of ESR in spite of clinical improvement and decrease of CRP - and during antimalarials - clinical improvement, decrease of CRP and constant, unchanged ESR - the quantification of CRP turns out to be superior to ESR.
6768203 | Defect of bone marrow granulocyte reserve in rheumatic diseases evaluated with etiocholano | 1980 | In 10 patients with rheumatoid arthritis, with normal baseline granulocyte count, the etiocholanolone test showed a decrease in the bone marrow granulocyte reserve; factors causing such a defect are discussed.
7084290 | A study of repeated administration of fenbufen in patients with chronic rheumatic disorder | 1982 | Male and female patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis with normal renal function or with renal impairment were treated in hospital with 300 mg of fenbufen 8 hourly for fourteen days. Concentrations of fenbufen and its principal metabolites were measured by high pressure liquid chromatography on days 0, 7, 10 and 14 and also four days after discontinuation of the drug. Renal impairment does not produce cumulation of either fenbufen or its major metabolites in the plasma. The metabolite profile of the drug was similar to that observed in patients with normal renal function.
734311 | Copper--an index of erosive activity? | 1978 Feb | Using atomic absorption spectrophotometry the copper content of synovial fluid has been compared in rheumatoid and osteoarthrotic synovial fluids. Synovial fluid caeruloplasmin has been determined by single radial immunodiffusion. Both are significantly increased in the rheumatoid group. Serum copper, similarly estimated, shows a trend to greater elevation with increasing degree of rheumatoid erosion as assessed radiologically.
7254640 | [Toxic cholestatic hepatitis secondary to chrysotherapy]. | 1981 Jul 31 | An unusual case of cholestatic toxic hepatitis observed during the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis with gold salts (colloidal sulphide) is reported. The primarily histological diagnosis was supported by the absence of hepatotoxic drugs and the ruling out of other forms of liver disease. Furthermore, the histological picture fitted that described in the few cases in the international literature.
419887 | [Chronic polyarthritis and erythema anulare centrifugum Darier]. | 1979 Jan | A casuistic contribution considers possible aethiopathogenetic factors of an erythema anulare centrifugum Darrier in a 47 year-old female patient suffering from a seronegative rheumatoid arthritis. The course is traced until the erythema fades and disseminated leucoderma appears.
6516543 | [Chronic polyarthritis and polytrauma. A case report]. | 1984 Sep | Rheumatoid arthritis already can lead to an extreme limited range of motion of the whole patient in an early age. A female patient of 39 years has been immobilized for a period of about 6 years. By accident she was suffering too from multiple fractures, especially of both femora and both elbow-joints. Rheumatoid arthritis and traumatic lesions lead to incommon surgical procedures. Both hip-, both elbow- and both kneejoints, regarding to the fractures, were replaced during three operation periods. Within half a year the patient was far extending independent of nursing and able to walk again.
6817532 | [Mechanical stress of osteophytes in the arthritic femur head]. | 1982 Sep | Osteophytes of forty femoral heads with degenerative arthritis (dissecting room material) are investigated histologically and roentgenologically. The analysis of the covering cartilage and the cancellous bone structure supports the view that osteophytes are subject to pressing forces. It is discussed that osteophytes have an influence of the degree of stress in the joint. There are no morphological indications of a traction force acting upon the osteophytes.
836337 | Resources for the care of arthritics in a nonmetropolitan community. Redding, California. | 1977 Jan | All professional, institutional, and administrative resources available to persons with musculoskeletal disabilities, including arthritis, were surveyed in a large nonmetropolitan community. Access to such resources and their residual capacity to serve local arthritics was determined. The resources appeared adequate as was the access, but the referral pattern was poorly developed. Most of the physicians in the community did not perceive a need for a trained rheumatologist practicing in the community.
547518 | [Intra-articular surgery in the treatment of chronic articular rheumatism (author's transl | 1979 | On the strength of his own case material, the author presents a phased programme for intra-articular surgery (synoviorthesis with corticosteroids and radionucleids, synovectomy) for the treatment of the chronic articular rheumatism.
439105 | A rapid, sensitive technique to assay penicillamine levels in blood and urine. | 1979 Jan | We have used a rapid, sensitive technique to assay penicillamine and its disulphide metabolites in body fluids. Penicillamine in serum is rapidly oxidized and the serum levels of the reduced material found in a pilot study of 10 patients ranged between 0.07 to 0.28 mg%. This technique may prove useful in allowing closer monitoring of therapy with this agent.
969475 | [Character of the rheumatic heart lesions in the current treatment and prevention of rheum | 1976 | An analysis and assessment of the character of heart lesions, their severity, development and influence by the contemporary complex antirheumatic treatment is performed on 1147 rheumatic patients. It was concluded that due to the organized struggle and prophylaxis of rheumatism as well as the timely diagnosis and early and complex antirheumatic treatment with the inclusion of relatively high doses of corticohormones, the rheumatic attacks develop lightly with a predominant affect of myocardium but to a light degree.
695176 | [Symptom dynamics in the surgical treatment of posttraumatic arthrosis deformans of the kn | 1978 Jul | 288 cases of posttraumatic deforming arthrosis of the knee-joint were examined. The further postoperative periodic examinations and checking of the late results of the treatment of 171 patients have proved that the symptoms of the disease are mainly due to the disorders in the knee-joint stability. The obtained data suggest the possibility of a secondary inflammatory origin of pain in deforming arthrosis and witness an important role played by the surgical prevention and correction of the joint instability in clinical remission of th disease.
930427 | [Morphological changes in the articular capsule tissue after preliminary synoviorthesis]. | 1977 Sep | Synovial tissues, surgically removed after synoviorthesis, were investigated microscopically. 198Au metallic desposits were seen until five years after the intraarticular injection. Light fibrotic changes were present, however these tissues exhibited also necrotic changes. 90Y could not be detected microscopically. Inclusions of necrotic cartilage in the synovial membrane may indicate cartilage disturbances due to 90Y. Osmium acid was identified by Xray-microanalysis. |
